Two Words To Answer: What Is Love?

What is love, but a personal definition? Dictionaries define love as an intense feeling, or intense affection for a person or thing. If you’ve had any sort of relationship to any person or thing, you know that the intensity of feelings is not a constant. When the intensity dips, we start to wonder if we have lost our passion, and we question ourselves. This is when we start substituting other words for love. Popular stand-ins:

Gratitude

Loyalty

Reciprocation

Selflessness

Caring

Compassion

Sacrifice

Growth

Understanding

Those are all good ways of being towards someone or something you claim to love. But WHAT IS LOVE? I feel there is a simpler way to define love.

Love is a feeling that inspires two words: discipline and commitment.

When you are inspired to maintain discipline and commitment to someone or something: your health, your family, the environment, your art, your learnings, your pets, your career, your goals, your plant collection, your everything that is important to you…then all of the words on the list above will follow.
