The Chocolate Chip Cookie Keeps Winning!

When you think about a snack, it all starts in the mind, which means it all starts with a thought, which means language is a key ingredient.

For me, flavor and food pairings can often start by thinking of words that pair well together. When the words share similar sounds, the alliteration makes it pop up easily into the imagination. Sometimes, it’s just nice to hear the music of the flavors. For example, listen to these snacks:

  • Black Pepper Pistachios.
  • Banana Barley Bread.
  • Tofu Turmeric Scramble.
  • Cashew Coconut Crumble
  • Pomegranate Potato Flatbread
  • Lychee Lemonade

Which brings us to Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Saying it is like dancing the cha cha cha. And no wonder why they’re so popular. People can forgive a mediocre Chocolate Chip Cookie. They dip it in milk, or coffee, and accept it. Chocolate Chip Cookies are fun, no matter how many times you say it!

However, imagine forgiving a Cranberry Blondie that is past her prime. It’s difficult! Forget about her being a day old, few are enticed to choose her even if she were fresh from the oven.

Her name doesn’t dance. She doesn’t do the cha cha.

So our eyes move past her in the bakery case as we search for our afternoon snack-dance partner.

The last time she was passed over in the bakery case, she got fed up with herself and decided to make a change. Sometimes she’ll show up as Blueberry Blondie, just for funsies, to compete with the muffins. When she dresses up as Brown Butter Blondie, she tries hard, but still the Chocolate Chip Cookie keeps winning.
